4-H Project

This is a picture of Ty and his 4-H goat, Chuy. You can see from the picture why Ty named him that. Last kidding season, Chivo's inexperience got us. This was one of the 1st kids born, and Chivo didn't know what to do. In his anxiety he chewed off the baby goat's ear. The county agent says not to worry, the ear problem shouldn't hurt in the placing. Hopefully Chivo will do better this year. The other picture is of some baby chicks Teryn got to replace our layers with. Ryanna is carrying on the tradition - she loves the animals!!

Pinto Canyon Mercantile

I've been wanting to do a post on the Pinto Canyon Mercantile! Teryn slows down on Sundays, and we usually use that time to get supplies. What that means is that we go up to the barns and get produce from the garden, and eggs and milk from the refrigerator in the milk room. We milk in the room pictured, then strain the milk, and put it in the refrigerator as quick possible. We drink it raw, and the quicker it cools the higher quality the milk. We keep the chickens in the goat pens where they are safe from predators. So we also store eggs in that refrigerator. It works out really good, because it is a central place, and who ever needs supplies, just goes and gets what they need. One goat and 6 chickens gives plenty of milk and eggs for us, Tricia's bunch, and Dale.

Cool Recipe!

Dangerous 5-Minute Chocolate Mug Cake -
Ingredients -
4 TBSP Flour, 4 TBSP Sugar, 3 TBSP Milk, 3 TBSP Oil, 3 TBSP Chocolate Chips, 2 TBSP Baking Cocoa, 1 Egg, 1 Coffee Mug, Splash of Vanilla.

Add dry ingredients to mug and mix well. Add egg and mix throughly. Pour in milk and oil, mix well. Add chocolate chips and vanilla and mix. Place mug in microwave and cook for 3 minutes. The cake might rise over the top of the mug. Serves two.

Why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world? Because now we're only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

Fall is Here

It is beautiful here! We've had tons of rain, and the grass is knee high. The days are cool, and nights are very cool! Dale was over the other evening on "Fiddle" night, and we were joking around about his bald head getting cold! So Ty went and got his coon skin hat for Dale to wear! Yesterday Ty had a friend over. We packed up MiHijo with water, lunches, and gadgets and hiked to the creek for a picnic and some orienteering. Teryn set the 1st course, when I left to set the 2nd course, MiHijo wanted to go with me, so I let him. The problem was that my hands were full with the compass, pencil and paper, and the prizes. So I turned MiHijo loose, and he followed me just like the dogs...and Bacon. It was funny seeing him follow me up and down the steep banks of the creek - not because he had to, but because he wanted to! If I got too far ahead of him, he would bray to let me know that he wasn't sure where to go, so I have to backtrack to get him. In the pictures you'll see the guys eating their lunches, MiHijo following me, the boys sliding down an embankment, and MiHijo and me watching the boys play.

Tabloid Teaser

Clay will be appearing in this picture in an ad in Bit and Bridle magazine. Rumor has it that a similar picture will be in the Western Horseman calandar. I'm not sure right now which issue of the magazine, or which year of the calandar, but if it's the '09 calendar, guess what everyone will be getting for Christmas?

It's Official!!!

Double click on the picture, and take a look at Holly's left hand, ring finger. Yep, it's an engagement ring. We're getting a new daughter in about 3 months! Teryn Lee and Holly make a great team, and I'm forecasting lots of love and laughter for them.

Tornado Ryanna

I don't want to minimize the destruction of Ike in any way, but in the area of demolition - Ryanna is unequalled! She is standing and scooting around and VERY curious about her surroundings!
